There are two different logins for two different library purposes.

  1. Proxy Server Login - To use ebooks and research databases to find articles, you will need to login with your HIU email address and HIU email password. Learn more about the Proxy Server Login below.
  2. Patron Account Login - To check out print materials such as books at the library in Fullerton, you will need your University ID number. Setting up this account will allow you to put holds on books to pick up later, renew books you have checked out, and check on your patron account for due dates and overdue fines, etc. Online students will probably not need to use this account but are welcome to do so if they are local. Learn more about the Patron Account Login below.

Proxy Server Login

When will I see this?
You will see a screen like this when you click on our online subscription resources such as Research Databases (ProQuest, PsycINFO, ATLA Religion, etc.), e-journal articles, or e-books that are restricted to current HIU students, faculty, and staff.

Why do I have to login?
Our license agreements require us to authenticate users to prove that only our students, faculty, and staff are permitted to use these subscription resources.

What is my login?
Enter your HIU email address and password. (If you are a SALT student, this will be your ID# and password.)

What if I have trouble?
If you have not set up your HIU email address or are having problems accessing your email, please contact the Information Technology Help Desk at for assistance. Until you have set up your email account, you will not be able to login here. You may contact the library with questions about authorization to use these resources, but this login uses your HIU email account which is managed by Information Technology.

Patron Account Login

When will I see this?
You can login to your library patron account from the library catalog ( Click on the Sign In link next to "Library Links" in the upper right corner of the screen. (See below.)

What is this account for?
This account connects you to your library patron account profile. It keeps track of the contact information we have on file for you and allows you to check print books and videos out of the library.

Why do I have to login?
You do not have to login to search the catalog. You do not need to use this login to access e-books or articles from e-journals. Use this login to:

  • View your patron account which shows what books you currently have checked out and when they are due.
  • Place a hold on a book from off campus to pick up later at either the library or the Anaheim campus. (Students who meet at the Anaheim campus can have books shuttled to that campus for pick up to avoid coming to the main campus.)
  • Renew books you have checked out if you need to keep them beyond the original due date.

What is my login?
You will need your 6-digit HIU University ID number and a password you create when setting up your remote access for the first time. (This is not associated with any other HIU account.)

Find out how to set up remote access here.
